Confirmation II – Grade 10
The second year of Confirmation preparation focuses on two themes: The Gifts of the Holy Spirit and God Present and Active in our lives. We will continue to use the Decision Point videos and book for each class, as well as other selected videos and activities.
Confirmation II Meeting Time: Sundays from 7:15 – 8:30 pm
Candidates are encouraged to attend Sunday Mass at 6 pm and then join us in Our Lady of Providence Hall immediately afterwards.
Lessons:
To fulfill the Confirmation II class requirements, candidates must attend all class meetings. If a candidate is absent for a particular class, he or she must complete the corresponding lesson at home. There is no additional homework. However, excessive absences will be viewed as a lack of commitment and the candidate may be asked to withdraw from the program and invited to re-enroll when he or she is ready. Candidates must complete all make-up lessons by the date listed in “Important Dates & Deadlines” in the Confirmation Handbook.
Make-up lessons are posted on our Homework website. Please read the instructions for how to complete the lessons carefully. Candidates must get a perfect score on the make-up lesson in order for it to be considered complete. Click the green button to visit our homework site.
Christian Service
All Confirmation candidates are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of Christian Service prior to receiving the sacrament. Service hours completed between September 1st of 9th Grade to 30 days prior to Confirmation may be counted towards the fulfillment of this requirement. Christian service is any donation of time, money or talent toward helping people in need as illustrated by the Corporal or Spiritual Works of Mercy. Please see our Parent Handbook for an explanation of how Christian Service differs from Community Service. Please use the Christian Service form for Confirmation Candidates to log the candidate’s hours. For our purposes, parents/guardians or sponsors are considered the supervisors of their candidate’s Christian service and are authorized to sign the form.
Finding a Sponsor:
We encourage candidates to find a sponsor during their first year of preparation for Confirmation. Confirmation sponsors serve as a valuable resource to the candidate. As such, a sponsor must be a confirmed Catholic in good standing who is not the parent or guardian of the candidate. In the Archdiocese of Boston, he or she must also be at least 17 years of age, unless he or she a sibling of the candidate.
