Alpha Videos

Instructions:

Each Confirmation I session includes two components: a video/discussion activity and a Youcat question & answer response section. Some lessons, such as the one on “Mary, Mother of God”, are posted on a separate page. Students who are enrolled in our homeschool program should watch the videos with the parent or adult who is responsible for his or her instruction for the year. Prior to watching the Alpha videos, parents should download the Alpha Leader Guide which provides additional information and questions to facilitate the conversation with your teenager. It is VERY important that you do not simply allow your teenager to watch the videos alone. The program requires personal reflection and human interaction in order to be effective.

PART I: Video Component

To watch an Alpha video, click the three small horizontal lines in the upper left corner of the video screen. This will open a drop-down menu of the videos in the playlist. Select the video you will be watching with your teen by clicking its title in the menu. Close the menu by clicking on the portion of the screen where the video is playing.

Each Alpha video is divided into several segments that set up a question for viewers to discuss together. The question is posed and then a series of street interviews are presented with young people answering the question. After the street interviews, the question is presented again. At this point, PAUSE the video and discuss with your teenager how each of you would answer the question. To enhance the conversation, additional questions for each segment are provided in the Alpha Leader Guide on the page corresponding to the video you are watching. After discussing the question, RESUME the video and repeat the process with each segment.

PART II: Youcat Questions

After watching the video with a parent, the student must complete the corresponding homework assignment using their Youcat books. Before submitting the answers to the Youcat questions, please read the instructions on the Youcat Questions page. It is highly recommended that students immediately print their responses to the questions after clicking the “submit” button so they will have a record of the work they completed. The information is not saved once you navigate away from the page.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Memmo at the Religious Education Office.
