Conf-2: Night of Liminality, Sunday April 7th, 6-9 pm

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Next Sunday, April 7th, is the last class night for our candidates who are preparing for Confirmation. We call this final class the Night of Liminality to underscore the place our young candidates now occupy as they stand on the threshold of Confirmation. This is also the third intermediate rite that takes place in the Church. This time it will be after the 6 pm Mass, which all the candidates are expected to attend with their family or sponsor. The night includes a talk by Father Mario, Adoration, a Candle Lighting Ceremony, Reconciliation, and many opportunities for quiet prayer and reflection.

Perhaps the MOST meaningful part of the evening is the personal letter we ask parents, guardians or sponsors to write to their candidate to read while he or she is waiting to take part in the Candle Lighting Ceremony. Hearing from the people who love you the most makes a huge impression on a young person. This letter is your opportunity to express your love, encouragement, and purpose for leading your candidate to this crucial point in his or her life. You might also reflect upon your own Confirmation, what that day meant to you, and what you hope it will mean to him or her. Think of this as an opportunity for you to write a letter your candidate will keep and cherish forever.

Multiple letters from different people (e.g., both parents) are welcome. However, please be sure that they are all sealed in an envelope with your candidate’s name on it. You may drop the envelope off at our office or through the mail slot in the door any time this week. You may also give the letter to your candidate after Mass on Sunday and tell him or her to put it in the reading packet he or she will pick-up at the table where the candidates usually sign in before entering the hall for class.

I attached the program for the evening to this message so you will have a better understanding of what we have planned. Please note that the evening is scheduled to go until 9:00 pm in order to make sure we have time to do everything, but here is always the possibility that we will run a few minutes late. We ask that you do not request to have your candidate dismissed early, unless it is for a significant reason that you are willing to discuss with me beforehand. We will be collecting the candidates cell phones at the start of the evening and returning them when it is done. If there is an emergency and you need to contact your candidate during the evening, please call or text me at (781) 832-0064.

Pumpkin Decorating!

Confirmation I – Pumpkin Decorating Service Project! October 25, 2018 @ 7:15 pm During class this Thursday, our Confirmation I students will be participating in our annual Pumpkin Decorating service project for the residents at LifeCare in Stoneham.  This is a great example of how much fun it can be to brighten up the day of nursing home residents who may not have many moments of joy in their life. ALL Confirmation I students should bring a 6-8 inch pumpkin to class on Thursday to decorate for the residents at LifeCare. The smaller pumpkins sold for pies work best. In … Continue reading

First Confirmation II Class on Sunday!

Dear Parents, Our first Confirmation II class is tomorrow in Our Lady of Providence Hall. The class is scheduled to start at 7 pm and is 60 minutes long. My intention is to end the class on time. However, it may run over depending on how long it takes the group to settle down and start paying attention.  If it looks like we will be running over, I will send a text to let you know. Like last year, I am not not assigning candidates to specific tables or groups. We have 114 candidates registered for Confirmation II, and there … Continue reading
